Dutch-born Saskia Smith lives in New Zealand’s picturesque Marlborough Sounds. Initially her artistry expressed itself through music as a vocalist but soon overlapped into brush, palette knife and paint. Although an artisan for a number of years, she still surprises herself whenever she captures on canvas some form or representation of what she sees in life.
Saskia is a self-taught artist. She says “What could be more rewarding than sharing this moment, an aspect of time, or a still of now – and how can it be called an original? I am an observer and participant in a bigger experience.” And so, she communicates what she observes and describes the dance of light and illusive shadows, blending and melding the colours, to paint the magic that calls out to her.
